The village of Agia Pelagia is about 20 km from the city of Heraklion , and is said to be one of the most picturesque places in Crete . Every year thousands of people visit the village from around the world. It is built on one side of a mountain and it actually slides down to a small gulf, where the water is blue.
That beach has actually a validation of a Blue Flag and combines both sea and mountain beauty all in one scenery. On the beach you can find restaurants and cafés to match your taste, but Agia Pelagia is famous for its fish-taverns, where you can enjoy fresh and local fishes! There are also supermarkets, souvenir-shops, internet cafés and pretty much everything you need to make your vacation more comfy. On the beach you can also have the opportunity to do a number of water sports if you are a fan.
Because the village is close to the highway (only 3km away), you can combine your vacation in Agia Pelagia to some visits to archaeological museums in Heraklion, the Minoan Palace in Knossos and other sightseeing around the area.
